City Boomers Walking

Welcome to NewYorkCityBoomers.com, the Baby Boomers’ Guide to Retirement in New York City!

When people ask me, “where will you move when you retire?” I always reply, “why should I move?”

My New York City apartment offers “assisted living” without the downsides: a doorman to help with groceries, a handyman who comes to fix the air conditioner, a super to call for major repairs. Everything from groceries to prescriptions to Indian food can be delivered to my door, any time I want it. If the need arises, walk-in health care and world-class hospitals are only a few blocks away.

And living in New York can be a bargain for us city boomers: A city bus a few steps away takes me where I want to go for a mere $1.25. If I wake up on a Wednesday morning and feel the need for a little culture, I’ll be sitting – in a deeply discounted TDF seat – in a Broadway theater by 2pm.

Now that we boomers have the time to really enjoy New York, the choices are endless. For years we have rushed past MOMA and the Frick and Lincoln Center on our way to work and meetings, saying to ourselves “one day…” That day has finally arrived, but where to start?

Our aim at NewYorkCityBoomers.com is to sort it all out for you. Our bloggers and friends (we hope you’ll join our community!) share favorite activities and events, boomer discounts, special offers and more. Whether long-time resident or relative newcomer, this site will help you:

• Discover both well-known and hidden cultural treasures
• Explore housing options
• Find fascinating, affordable travel
• Keep both body and mind healthy
• Join communities to develop new skills, give back, or just to have fun
• Enjoy all that New York offers to those with more time than money

We’ll surf the web, check the listings, and scout the sites, so you don’t have to. Everything you’ll need to know to enjoy your favorite city to the fullest will be just one click away.

Welcome City Boomers. Let’s start our retirement adventure!
